Local Lands 2022

St. Louis is not known as an outdoor wonderland. We can change that.

Our city sits at the confluence of three mighty rivers — the Mississippi, Missouri, and Illinois — at the end of the sprawling Missouri River valley. The rolling hills that cradle our neighborhoods are the transition between the grassy plains and the wooded Ozark Mountains. Forest Park is one of the largest and most beautiful urban parks in the world. Between Gateway Arch National Park in the East to the Katy Trail in the west, our region holds over 600 parks, 130 miles of greenways and over 100 miles of trails. This abundance of public outdoor spaces is one of our greatest under appreciated resources.

For this prompt I wanted to honor my favorite park my family visited often growing up in the STL area: Susan Park. It’s a lovely park located just off highway 55; picturesque hills and trees make way to a sweet farm, filled with horses, goats, cows, cute lil piggies & even a few Shetland ponies! Suson brings back all the warm fuzzies to this day; it was such a delight trying to capture that feeling in a poster!
